Eric Young saw the internet running wild with his TNA exit, and he decided to shut down a few things himself.
After a report claimed WWE is expected to have interest in bringing him back, Young jumped on Twitter and made it clear he was not just another name caught in TNA’s latest cuts. According to him, he asked to leave.
“The internet is FN WILD! 3 things to know about the news today!!!!”
Young started with the biggest point first: “1. I asked for my release! They granted it!” He also denied talk that he was working without a real deal in place, saying his contract situation was never casual: “2. I was never on a handshake deal. I have had a binding contract the entire time!” Then Young made it clear he plans to call his own shot from here.
“3. I will work where I want how I want and for whom I want! My track record, resume, accolades and reputation are proof of that! See you soon!!!!”
That changes the whole tone of his TNA departure. The company announced on July 1 that Young was released effective immediately and praised his run as a two-time TNA World Champion.
“TNA Wrestling has come to the terms on the release of Eric Young effective immediately. EY has had a legendary TNA career, including twice as TNA World Champion. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
At first, it looked like Young was part of TNA’s wider shakeup, especially with Tommy Dreamer, Tessa Blanchard, Aiden Prince, and others also leaving during Anthem’s workforce reduction. Now Young is saying he was not swept out with the cuts. He wanted out, got his release, and is already making it clear he is not desperate for anyone’s permission to move next.
Whether WWE ends up calling, or Young chooses another destination entirely, one thing is clear: he wants everyone to know this was his move—not TNA’s.
