Eric Young might not be sitting on the sidelines for long because WWE is already sniffing around after his TNA exit.
According to False Finish, WWE sources indicated the company is expected to have interest in bringing Young back now that he is officially gone from TNA. That is a pretty fast turn, considering Young was just cut loose during TNA’s latest shakeup.
TNA announced Young’s release on July 1, 2026, and gave him a respectful sendoff while reminding fans he was a two-time TNA World Champion.
“TNA Wrestling has come to the terms on the release of Eric Young effective immediately. EY has had a legendary TNA career, including twice as TNA World Champion. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
His release also came while TNA is clearly trimming down. Anthem Sports recently confirmed a workforce reduction, and names like Tommy Dreamer, Tessa Blanchard, and Aiden Prince were also part of the fallout.
Young previously worked there as part of Sanity and later returned briefly in 2022 before leaving again, so there is already a connection. With WWE expected to show interest, his TNA release may quickly turn into a comeback story instead of just another name on the cut list.
Now the big question is whether WWE actually pulls the trigger or just keeps him on the radar. Either way, Young’s TNA departure may already be turning into his next opening.
