WWE officially retired both Speed Championships during WWE NXT on September 1, 2026. The announcement came during a backstage segment immediately after the Creed Brothers returned and destroyed everyone in the ring.
Zaria appeared with the WWE Women’s Speed Championship and announced that she was retiring the title. She entered the show holding both the Women’s Speed Championship and Women’s North American Championship after winning a Triple Threat title unification match against Wren Sinclair and Kali Armstrong at NXT Heatwave.
Wren entered Heatwave as the Women’s Speed Champion, while Zaria put her Women’s North American Championship on the line. Zaria won by hitting Armstrong with an F-5 and pinning her while Sinclair was down at ringside.
Lexis King then approached Robert Stone about what Zaria’s decision meant for the men’s championship. Stone informed King that the WWE Speed Championship was also officially retired, bringing both title lineages to an end on the same night.
WWE introduced the Speed Championships in 2024 as part of WWE Speed, a series built around short matches and broadcast exclusively on X. The championships were later moved to NXT after the original series ended.
Zaria and King will now go down as the final Women’s and Men’s Speed Champions. Zaria remains the Women’s North American Champion, while King’s championship reign ended without him losing the title inside the ring. WWE tried to keep the Speed concept alive through NXT, but Tuesday’s announcement closed the book on the experiment for good.
