Rusev and Ethan Page spent several weeks working together on Monday Night RAW, but that partnership may not simply pick up where it left off once Rusev returns. With the Bulgarian Brute getting closer to an in-ring comeback, there is now some uncertainty over whether WWE still sees the two as a unit.
During a WrestleVotes Q&A, WrestleVotes was asked where things currently stand with Rusev and Page. Despite their previous run together, the two are not officially recognized as a tag team within WWE right now.
“They’re not officially listed as a tag team. Rusev’s been out of action for over a month now, and he’s due back relatively soon. It’s not known if they will be a tag team going forward, but they are not an official tag team right now.”
That leaves things pretty open for Rusev when he returns. His absence interrupted whatever WWE had been doing with Page, and there is currently no indication that the company is committed to putting them straight back together.
The good news for Rusev is that the wait shouldn’t be much longer. CJ Perry recently revealed on NotSam Wrestling that Rusev went to the WWE Performance Center and received medical clearance after dealing with the injury that took him off television and another health issue.
“I know he went to the PC last week and got cleared. He had a little bit of another health issue going on too. But he’s cleared now. He went to the Performance Center.”
Rusev also isn’t planning on walking straight from medical clearance back onto RAW. Perry said he intends to train with NXT in Orlando and visit Natalya’s Dungeon 2.0 so he can sharpen everything up before WWE puts him back on television.
“Next week he’ll go to Orlando and train in NXT all week long, going to Nattie’s Dungeon 2.0, because when he gets called, he wants to be as snappy, aggressive, fast, and calculative as possible. He wants to live up to being that super athlete.”
Rusev has been sidelined since his July 27 RAW match against Je’Von Evans, where he landed awkwardly on his neck and experienced numbness in his hands. He finished the match before heading backstage for medical attention.
Now the Bulgarian Brute is cleared and due back relatively soon. What WWE hasn’t decided, or at least hasn’t made clear yet, is whether Ethan Page will still be standing beside him when that happens.
