Rusev’s wait to get back in a WWE ring is finally over, at least from a medical standpoint. CJ Perry says he visited the Performance Center last week and was officially cleared, and now he’s preparing himself so he can be ready the second WWE calls.
Speaking on NotSam Wrestling, Perry revealed that Rusev recently returned to the WWE Performance Center after dealing with the injury that took him off television and another health issue that followed. Whatever was keeping him from competing is no longer standing in his way.
“I know he went to the PC last week and got cleared. He had a little bit of another health issue going on too. But he’s cleared now. He went to the Performance Center.”
Getting cleared doesn’t mean Rusev is sitting at home waiting for his music to hit. Perry says he plans to spend next week training in Orlando with NXT before also heading to Natalya’s Dungeon 2.0, with the goal of getting his timing and conditioning exactly where he wants them.
“Next week he’ll go to Orlando and train in NXT all week long, going to Nattie’s Dungeon 2.0, because when he gets called, he wants to be as snappy, aggressive, fast, and calculative as possible. He wants to live up to being that super athlete.”
Perry sees that as part of life on WWE’s roster. Not everyone can be on television every week, so Rusev’s job now is to make sure he’s completely ready whenever the next storyline and opportunity arrive.
“I think that’s what all it is in WWE. Not everyone is on TV every single week, and you just have to wait for your storyline and opportunity, and then blow it out of the water.”
That’s a major change from where Rusev was after his July 27 RAW match against Je’Von Evans. He landed awkwardly on his neck during the match and his hands went numb, with the referee checking on him and giving him the option of stopping.
Rusev chose to finish. Perry explained during the same interview that he was in considerable pain afterwards and rushed backstage because he wanted to get to WWE’s medical team. His sudden exit led to speculation that he was angry about losing to Evans, something Perry directly denied.
There’s still no date circled for Rusev to walk back onto RAW, but he doesn’t appear interested in waiting around unprepared. He’s cleared, he’s heading back into serious training, and Perry says the Bulgarian Brute wants to be “snappy, aggressive, fast, and calculative” whenever WWE finally gives him the call.
