Triple H just secured his future running WWE creative — but Vince Russo clearly doesn’t believe he’s earned a bigger payday.
While speaking on Coach and Bro, Russo reacted to Eric Bischoff saying Triple H deserved more money. Russo said he understood why people in wrestling’s Hall of Fame circle would support Triple H, but he immediately questioned what results actually justify that praise.
“I read an article today about Eric Bischoff and his show 83 Weeks—and I’m even plugging it for him, 83 Weeks. But the article was about Eric Bischoff saying that Triple H deserves a raise. And I’m reading this, and I’m like, ‘Okay, listen, bro—I understand. It’s a Hall of Fame club. I get all that. But I keep asking this question over and over again—Triple H deserves a raise based on what? Like seriously, what has this guy done for that company where he deserves a raise?’”
Russo then backed up his criticism by pointing to WWE’s recent television numbers. In his view, declining viewership makes it harder to argue that Triple H should be rewarded with more money.
“The television numbers are down. I was reading yesterday—Netflix, 1.7 over the entire week—the lowest number since February.”
He also brought up attendance, claiming WWE ran a building that was far from full. Russo used that as another example of why he believes the company’s current creative leadership should be questioned instead of praised: “They did 10,000 people in an arena that fits 20,000 people on Monday.”
Russo then shifted to WWE’s recent talent releases. He argued that if WWE hired those wrestlers and failed to develop them, then their releases should reflect poorly on the people in charge.
“23 people were released. Those are people you hired, you were supposed to develop—you swung and missed, and they’re gone.”
He also took issue with Triple H’s recent comments about WWE not having backups and not knowing how the audience will react. To Russo, that suggested a lack of understanding of the fanbase.
“Then we’ve got the interview where he’s saying, ‘We have no backups.’ In the same interview, he’s saying, ‘I don’t know if the audience is going to boo or cheer.’ So you’re saying, ‘I have no idea who the audience is.’”
Russo once again returned to his main point, questioning what Triple H has done recently to earn a pay increase: “What exactly is this guy doing to deserve an increase in pay?”
Triple H’s new WWE deal was announced internally by WWE President Nick Khan during a TKO all-hands virtual town hall. It was noted that Paul Levesque signed a new agreement to remain WWE Chief Content Officer, with sources indicating it is a multi-year deal.
The contract confirms WWE’s continued trust in Triple H as the head of creative, but Russo clearly isn’t sold. He believes the numbers, recent releases, and creative uncertainty make the argument for a raise much harder to defend.
