Grayson Waller is the new NXT Champion after surviving a chaotic Fatal Four-Way Match against Tony D’Angelo, Cruz Montana and Zilla Fatu at NXT Heatwave. Waller picked the perfect moment to strike, throwing Montana from the ring after he hit D’Angelo with Spin the Block and covering the former champion for the three-count.
Waller went straight after D’Angelo when the bell rang, while Montana and Fatu threw hands in the corner. Fatu had to fight off both Waller and Montana after D’Angelo was knocked outside, but D’Angelo got back in and dropped him with a spinebuster.
Montana then took over for a stretch, sending D’Angelo outside and diving over the top rope onto the rest of the field. He brought Waller back in for Three Amigos suplexes, but Waller stopped him with a throat chop and later planted him with a neckbreaker.
The action went all over the arena. Fatu whipped D’Angelo into the barricade and ring post, while Waller threw Fatu into the steel steps. D’Angelo fought back by hitting exploder suplexes on both Montana and Fatu, then grabbed a chair and table from under the ring before Waller cut him off.
Fatu looked ready to win when he hit D’Angelo with a Samoan Drop and followed it with a leaping Samoan Spike. The referee started his count, but Waller pulled him out of the ring before he could count three.
Fatu tried to make Waller pay by clearing the announce table, but Waller poked him in the eyes and escaped. D’Angelo then speared Fatu, while Montana put Fatu through the announce table setup. Waller climbed to the top rope and crashed down onto Fatu, driving him through the table.
With Fatu out, D’Angelo and Montana battled in the ring. D’Angelo landed a German suplex and a spear, but Montana answered with Spin the Block. Montana was seconds from pinning D’Angelo until Waller slid back in, tossed Montana outside and made the cover himself.
Waller is now NXT Champion after capitalizing on Montana’s work and pinning D’Angelo when he was already down. Was Waller the smartest man in the match, or did he steal the championship? Leave your feedback in the comments.
