Sol Ruca’s Women’s Intercontinental Championship reign is already over—and Vince Russo thinks WWE made the same mistake it’s made countless times before.
After Raquel Rodriguez defeated Ruca on RAW to capture the Women’s Intercontinental Championship, Russo took to Twitter to rip WWE’s booking, arguing the company rushed into putting the title on Ruca only to take it away before it could do anything for her. According to Russo, this has become a bad habit for WWE whenever talent gets called up from NXT.
“I don’t know how many times @WWE puts a belt on somebody once they come up from @WWENXT only to take it off of them weeks later before they ever have an opportunity for it to help them get over.”
Russo argued this isn’t an isolated incident either, saying WWE keeps falling into the same pattern over and over again. In his view, taking the championship away so quickly doesn’t help create a bigger star—it does the exact opposite.
“They repeat this over and over again. All it is is a step backwards for the talent. Makes no sense.”
He also questioned why WWE would even put a championship on someone if there was already doubt internally about whether they were ready for the spot.
“If you even have a ‘feeling’ that they might not be ready yet—THEN DON’T PUT IT ON THEM!!! You damage them when you do—then prematurely take it away.”
Russo’s criticism came after the July 27 episode of WWE RAW saw Ruca lose the title following interference from Liv Morgan and Roxanne Perez. As Morgan brawled with IYO SKY at ringside, Perez stopped Ruca from hitting the Sol Snatcher, opening the door for Rodriguez to hit her finisher and capture the championship.
Whether fans agree with Russo or not, Sol Ruca’s first main roster singles title reign is already in the books—and it didn’t take long for people to start questioning whether WWE pulled the trigger on the title change far too soon.
