Ric Flair has apparently decided that if people are going to keep talking about how he’s somehow still alive, he might as well make some money off it. After his latest fall and hospital visit led to another round of concern about his health, The Nature Boy has now turned the whole situation into official merchandise.
Flair’s official shop promoted a new T-shirt featuring the rather fitting message, “I Ain’t Dead Yet Mother F***ers.” The promotional post made the joke even more obvious by using a photo of Flair himself sitting at the hospital with an eyepatch following his recent injury.
It’s pretty much Flair cashing in on his own recent crash-out. Instead of treating the hospital photo like something embarrassing or particularly grim, he’s now using the image to help sell a shirt bragging about the fact that he’s still here.
The merchandise also comes right after Flair made it very clear that he’s tired of being asked how the hell he’s still alive. On October 30, Flair responded to those questions by rattling off everything his body has already been through over the years.
“The question I keep getting asked is — how am I still alive? After 5,000 matches with 2,400 of them being one-hour draws and five 90-minute bouts. Round trip to Japan, 24 hours, only to wrestle three one-hour draws. Airplane crash, 31 days in the ICU and 14 days on life support. 35 days in rehab. And you are worried about me falling down and hitting my eye? WTF.”
So Flair has managed to turn a pretty nasty hospital trip into another piece of Nature Boy branding in less than a week. Getting photographed in an eyepatch after a bloody fall probably wasn’t part of the merchandise strategy, but once the picture existed, Flair apparently figured “I Ain’t Dead Yet” was too damn perfect to waste.
