Nick Aldis isn’t trying to explain what happened at Saturday Night’s Main Event. He’s owning it.
After shocking Madison Square Garden by costing GUNTHER the biggest match of the night, the SmackDown General Manager took to social media with a blunt response that left no room for interpretation.
WWE took to Twitter and shared the controversial finish with the caption: “DID THAT JUST HAPPEN?!? NICK ALDIS COST GUNTHER THE WIN!!!” Aldis saw it, reposted it, and replied with just four words: “Damn right it did.”
The SmackDown General Manager inserted himself into the show’s main event just as GUNTHER looked to have the match under control. Instead of letting the referee finish the count, Aldis yanked him out, blasted the Ring General with the championship belt, shoved another official into the ring and watched everything fall apart for GUNTHER. If GUNTHER was furious before, this isn’t going to help.
The two have been circling each other for weeks, with suspensions, confrontations and outright attacks pushing the rivalry further every time they cross paths. Reports have already pointed to a SummerSlam match between them, and Aldis’ latest message feels less like a social media post and more like him throwing another punch.
At this point, there may not be any talking left between Nick Aldis and GUNTHER. After what happened at Madison Square Garden—and Aldis proudly standing by it—the only thing left might be for the two of them to settle it inside the ring at SummerSlam.
