Saturday Night’s Main Event invaded Madison Square Garden. In the main event of the night, WWE brought fans a major tag team match with CM Punk and Cody Rhodes against Sami Zayn and GUNTHER.

The tag team match had already become even more important after Adam Pearce announced that a win for Sami and GUNTHER would change the Undisputed WWE Championship match at SummerSlam into a Fatal 4-Way. That meant the stakes were much higher than just a regular tag team match.

Sami Zayn was still frustrated after his nine-day reign as Undisputed WWE Champion ended at the hands of CM Punk. GUNTHER also had his own issues with WWE, making the team of Sami and the Ring General a dangerous one heading into the match.

Now, CM Punk and Cody Rhodes had to find a way to work together to prevent Sami Zayn and GUNTHER from adding another Superstar to the Undisputed WWE Championship match at SummerSlam.

This was a back-and-forth match. They kept going until everyone in the contest was down, and the MSG crowd chanted heavily to let everyone know that “This Is Awesome.”

With SummerSlam coming up in two weeks, all four men in this match fought hard because they wanted control of the Undisputed Title match at the biggest party of the summer.

At one point, GUNTHER got CM Punk in a sleeper, knocked Cody Rhodes off the ropes, and the Ring General kept holding the pressure to the Second City Saint. Cody got the pin on GUNTHER, hit a Crossroads, but then Sami Zayn shoved CM Punk onto them to break up the pinfall attempt.

The match continued, and GUNTHER almost got the pinfall, but Nick Aldis stopped the referee. Then he nailed GUNTHER with the title belt across the face, threw a referee in the match and he got the pinfall. The tension between Nick Aldis and GUNTHER will continue, and odds are they will throw down eventually.

WWE SummerSlam will take place at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on August 1 and 2. We will have full coverage of the two-night biggest party of the summer here at Ringside News.
