Konnan officially joined the TNA Hall of Fame on October 11, 2026 — but when it came time for the wrestling legend to actually walk onto the stage, he was nowhere to be found.
Cruz Montana handled the induction in Tampa and made it clear from the jump that this wasn’t going to be some generic speech. After a video package covering Konnan’s career, Montana admitted he went back and forth over whether he should write something down, but ultimately decided to speak straight from the heart.
Montana then laid out just how massive Konnan’s influence has been on professional wrestling, especially when it comes to lucha libre in the United States. He credited Konnan with helping pave the way for names like Rey Mysterio, Juventud Guerrera and Psychosis.
“Without Konnan there is no Rey Mysterio, there is no Juventud Guerrera and there is no Psychosis.”
Montana then took it even further.
“Without Konnan there is no lucha libre in the United States.”
He thanked Konnan for opening doors for wrestlers like himself before delivering one final tribute, calling him the most “swagged out badass mother f***er” in the business today. Then Konnan’s music hit.
Except Konnan never came out. Montana stood there with the plaque while the entrance music played, but there was no appearance from the newly inducted Hall of Famer. He eventually raised Konnan’s plaque himself before carrying it backstage.
TNA did not give an explanation during the ceremony for Konnan’s absence, but his recent health struggles immediately loom large over the situation.
Ringside News has extensively covered Konnan’s brutal medical battle throughout 2026. In June, Konnan was said to have undergone a procedure to amputate his second leg while going through an exhausting rehabilitation process. His health issues didn’t stop there. In August, Latin Lover revealed that Konnan was waiting for another kidney transplant after his previous kidney was rejected, describing his condition at the time as hanging by a “very, very thin thread.”
There was at least some encouraging news heading into the ceremony. Just one day before the induction, Dave Meltzer shared a fresh update indicating that Konnan had finally gotten through the most dangerous part of his medical battle. As Ringside News covered, Konnan was said to be “past the worst” of his serious health situation. The update also cast doubt on whether Konnan would physically be able to attend the Hall of Fame ceremony at all, making his absence from the stage far less surprising given everything he has been dealing with.
Konnan’s induction took place ahead of TNA Bound For Glory on October 11, 2026, with the company honoring one of the most influential names in lucha libre history before the night’s matches got underway.
Konnan may not have been able to stand on that stage and accept the plaque himself, but considering everything he has been fighting through this year, simply seeing his career formally recognized carried plenty of weight. His absence was noticeable, but the reason behind it could be far bigger than wrestling.
