Konnan’s health situation appears to be even more serious than previously known, and Vince Russo is now sharing a major update.
While speaking on the Coach and Bro Show, Vince Russo noted that Konnan has now undergone a double leg amputation after previously losing one leg due to serious medical complications. Russo said he had been updated on the situation about a week earlier and confirmed that the second leg was eventually amputated.
“Konnan has gone through a double leg amputation. Yes, both legs. And I was smarted up on it—I knew he had the one leg amputated, and the second one was in question. That was the last time I talked to him, probably about two months ago. They had to remove the second one.”
Russo explained that he recently spoke with Konnan, but kept the conversation short because the wrestling veteran was weak and exhausted while going through rehabilitation. Russo also shared a major update regarding Konnan’s medical costs, claiming WWE has covered everything.
“So I called Konnan yesterday. I didn’t talk to him long, man, because he’s very weak. He’s going through grueling rehabilitation, learning how to cope with it. I can’t even imagine that—like, we can’t imagine that. Konnan said to me that WWE has paid every single cent of his medical bills.”
Vince Russo said that the detail needed to be made public, especially considering the physical, emotional, and financial weight of such a serious situation, but he believes WWE paid over $1 million.
“So he really, really sounded exhausted. I’m like, ‘Brother, go relax, man. We’re praying for you, we love you and all that, but I do want to point this out.’
Konnan said to me that WWE has paid every single cent of his medical bills. And that’s got to be pointed out, and that’s got to be said, because I can’t imagine—first of all—who could imagine losing a limb, let alone two limbs, then going through rehabilitation for six months, and on top of that having to worry about how you’re going to pay for this.
So he said, ‘Vince, WWE has paid every penny, and I was only working with them for a short time.’ Oh no—it’s, I think, well over a million dollars for something like that.”
This comes after earlier reports stated that Konnan had one leg amputated and was at risk of losing the other. At the time, sources connected to AAA and WWE were said to be staying quiet out of respect, allowing Konnan to speak publicly about his health whenever he was ready.
Konnan has dealt with serious health issues for years, including kidney failure, a transplant, and complications connected to COVID-19. Russo’s update paints an even more difficult picture, with Konnan now facing a long rehabilitation process after losing both legs.
For now, the wrestling world will likely wait for Konnan himself to address his condition when he is ready. Russo’s comments, however, make it clear that Konnan is dealing with an incredibly serious recovery while receiving major support from WWE.
