Konnan’s health battle is even more complicated than previously known. Latin Lover says the kidney Konnan received years ago was eventually rejected by his body, leaving him waiting for another transplant while his health hung by a “very, very thin thread.”
While speaking on his YouTube channel, Latin Lover opened up about a conversation he personally had with Konnan after noticing just how drastically his condition had changed. Latin Lover remembered seeing Konnan doing much better before. So when they spoke again, he simply asked him what happened.
“I told him, before Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosí, when we shook hands the first time Dorian Roldán brought us together right here in my home, in my city, Monterrey, Nuevo León… I said, ‘When? I mean, I had seen you doing well, man. Why are you doing badly this time?’”
The answer was his kidney. Konnan underwent a kidney transplant years ago, something that has already been publicly documented. According to Latin Lover, that kidney lasted for eight years before Konnan’s body rejected it.
“He had a kidney transplant some years ago. I remember. I’m telling you, that was made public, so that’s why if I say it, there’s nothing wrong with that. But his body, after eight years — after eight years — rejected that organ that obviously somebody donated. Someone donated it to him, they put it in him, and his body rejected it.”
That put Konnan right back into another terrifying wait. Latin Lover said Konnan was waiting for another kidney transplant, either through another donor or until a suitable organ became available. He also acknowledged reports of poor circulation in Konnan’s legs, but drew a line between what he actually knew and the speculation surrounding everything else.
“And that’s why, before all those speculations about whether they cut off one leg, two legs or not, he was waiting for another kidney transplant — rather, for somebody who could donate one or for one to become available. He was waiting. There was also talk about poor circulation in his legs.”
That distinction matters because Vince Russo recently claimed Konnan underwent a double leg amputation and is now facing a grueling rehabilitation process. Konnan himself has not publicly confirmed every detail surrounding those claims. Latin Lover wasn’t trying to fill in those blanks. What he did describe was already serious enough.
“And then, on top of that, carrying the weight of having an organ — the kidney — failing and waiting, and while it doesn’t arrive, your health is hanging by a very, very thin thread.”
All of this is happening while Konnan is preparing to receive one of the biggest honors of his career. TNA announced at Slammiversary 2026 that Konnan will enter the TNA Hall of Fame alongside Amazing Red. That announcement immediately raised another question: would Konnan actually be healthy enough to attend?
Back in June, Dave Meltzer said Konnan had been in life-threatening condition for a long time but had finally “turned the corner.”
“Yeah, he’s in rough shape, but he is like, he’s not in life threatening shape. From what I’ve last heard, he’s doing better than he was before.”
For Konnan, another kidney wouldn’t simply represent another medical procedure. It could be the thing that finally gives his body a fighting chance after everything it has already endured, and hopefully the transplant he needs comes sooner rather than later.
