Baron Corbin’s WWE return may have divided fans, but Jonathan Coachman believes the company brought him back for one very specific reason—and it’s exactly why the second run has a chance to succeed where the first one didn’t.

Speaking on Two Count Tuesday, Coachman argued that WWE has been missing a true old-school heel for years, and Corbin naturally fills that role. Unlike many modern stars chasing cheers, merchandise sales or viral moments, Coachman believes Corbin is one of the rare wrestlers who can genuinely make fans want to see him lose.

Coachman also suggested Corbin wasn’t in a position where he had to crawl back to WWE for another opportunity. Between his growing coffee business and the money he’s capable of making on the independent scene, Coachman believes Corbin had the leverage to make sure this comeback happened on his own terms.

“If you’re Baron Corbin, he is intelligent enough before he signs for them to lay it out. I think that’s one of the biggest reasons that Chris Jericho never came back over. I know it on good authority that Triple H said, ‘I’ve got nothing for you but CM Punk.’ So Baron Corbin is smart enough. Plus, he’s also positioned himself where he doesn’t need them now financially. He’s got a coffee brand going. He’s got other things. He can also make enough money on the indies to supplement that.”

That led Coachman to what he believes is the biggest key to making Corbin’s return work. While making it clear he hasn’t spoken to Corbin about WWE’s plans, Coachman said his gut tells him the former United States Champion signed a deal with a very specific vision in mind—and that vision absolutely does not involve trying to become a fan favorite.

“So to me, for him to re-sign—and I purposely have not talked to him about this because I don’t want to lie to our audience, I don’t want to lie to you, and I certainly don’t want to give away anything that he is thinking or what they are doing—but my gut is that since he has re-signed, he has a very clear vision as coming back as a heel. He has no business being a babyface right now. And that’s why he’s perfect right now for what they need if they can be creative correctly.”

Coachman’s comments come just days after Corbin made his surprise return on the July 10 edition of SmackDown, attacking Carmelo Hayes during his United States Championship match against Trick Williams. While the live crowd erupted for the comeback, the reaction online was far more divided, with many fans questioning why WWE chose to bring Corbin back in the first place.

Coachman clearly sees things differently. In his eyes, WWE didn’t bring Corbin back to be cheered—they brought him back to be hated. If that’s truly the plan, Coach believes Corbin’s second run already has a much stronger foundation than the first.

Do you agree with Jonathan Coachman that Baron Corbin should remain a full-time heel, or would you rather see WWE take him in a different direction? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
