Kofi Kingston and Austin Creed appear to be headed straight for AEW—and they won’t be arriving alone. The former New Day members are now planned for a major match at All In London alongside Swerve Strickland.
Fightful Select confirmed on August 29 that Kingston and Creed, formerly known as Xavier Woods in WWE, are headed to AEW barring an unforeseen catastrophe. The two are expected to sign with the company if they haven’t put pen to paper already.
The deal came together fast. Kingston and Creed were not signed two weeks ago, but negotiations picked up after that and an agreement was worked out within the last couple of weeks.
Their first assignment is already taking shape. Kingston and Creed are planned to join Swerve Strickland in the Trios Royal Roulette match at Wembley Stadium, with the trio set to enter as the wild-card team. They also won’t be carrying The New Day name into AEW. Kingston and Creed are expected to receive a brand-new team name, though AEW has kept that identity under wraps for now. This comes after WrestleVotes Radio revealed that people already inside AEW were expecting the decorated duo to appear at All In.
“After speaking with sources, we’re told there are those within the company expecting former New Day members Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston to make their AEW debuts this weekend at All In.”
At the time, the move had not been locked down publicly, but multiple people connected to AEW believed Kingston and Creed were on their way to the company.
“While we don’t have a stamped confirmation on that happening, the belief from two different sources we spoke to is that the feeling internally is that the legendary duo are indeed AEW-bound, with an appearance at Wembley Stadium this weekend well within the realm of possibilities.”
Now the picture is much clearer. Kingston and Creed aren’t simply expected to walk through the curtain—they already have a new presentation and a spot beside former AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland waiting for them.
Putting the former New Day members with Swerve gives AEW a ready-made attraction for Wembley while immediately separating the duo from their WWE past. If everything goes according to plan, the wild-card team could deliver one of the biggest surprises of the entire show.
