Baron Corbin’s surprise WWE return got a huge reaction during the July 10 SmackDown. Online? That was a completely different story.
Corbin shocked fans when he showed up during Trick Williams’ United States Championship match against Carmelo Hayes, dragging Hayes off the apron before planting him with an End of Days. The Paycom Center erupted, with fans chanting “holy sh*t” as Corbin stood tall in his first WWE appearance since being released in November 2024.
Once the show ended, however, the mood on social media flipped fast. Instead of celebrating the return, plenty of fans questioned why WWE brought Corbin back at all. One fan mocked the comeback by writing: “My knees pop louder than this dude’s return.”
Another didn’t hold back either: “Can’t believe they brought back this bum.” Others saw the move as a step backwards rather than a surprise worth celebrating.
“Company is going backwards 10 years what’s next Enzo and Cass. Stop hiring old washed wrestlers.”
One fan went even further, arguing Corbin simply doesn’t bring enough to the table: “He’s the worst. No charisma / no creative moves. So boring. I’m done ✔️.” The biggest question came from another fan who wondered whether WWE was answering a demand that never really existed.
“Arguably one of the very few returns I can’t see the positives for? Were fans really clamouring for Baron Corbin in 2026?”
That divide makes Corbin’s return even more interesting. Inside the arena, WWE got exactly the kind of surprise reaction it was looking for. Outside the building, a vocal section of the fanbase immediately began wondering why the company chose to bring him back after nearly two years away.
It’s only Corbin’s first night back, so opinions could change once his role becomes clearer. But if WWE expected a unanimous welcome-home party, that’s not what it got. The return delivered the surprise—it’s the reaction afterwards that’s become the bigger story.
