The July 28 episode of WWE NXT was a fun episode, and it closed out with an important segment. The brand needs to create new stars, and Cruz Montana is here to make some noise.

Fans were shocked to see Mike Santana show up during last week’s episode of NXT. Then it was revealed that he has a new name, Cruz Montana. Grayson Waller was sure to poke fun at that new name during his pipe bomb promo.

This week’s episode of NXT closed out with Cruz Montana taking the ring for some promo time. He had a lot on his mind, and it was time to address the NXT Universe.

Cruz Montana made his way to the ring through the crowd. He also announced that he is officially a WWE Superstar. There were times when he didn’t think that was possible, but it’s the reality we are living in. He went on to say that he didn’t want to be wasted potential, and how he wants people to see who he really is.

Then, Cruz Montana talked about how he was told that he had reached his ceiling as a tag team wrestler. He cut a promo about how each step up was a form of validation, and he rebuilt his career one match at a time after that. He mentioned TNA Wrestling and how he loves and appreciates everything they did for him, but he’s a WWE Superstar now.

Prior to coming to NXT, Cruz Montana was a big deal in TNA Wrestling. He was also a part of AEW for a while, but now Mike Santana is Cruz Montana. Only time will tell what is next in his story. He said that he’s not here to fill a spot, he’s here to take a spot as the new NXT Champion.

Cruz Montana brought attention to Grayson Waller. He called his pipe bomb promo cute, but then they can settle it in the ring. At that point, Tony D’Angelo came out, and the NXT Champion brought a lot of tension with him. Tony welcomed Cruz to NXT before introducing himself.

Tony D’Angelo went on to say that he didn’t believe that Cruz Montana would be champion. He also called Grayson Waller “Kangaroo Jack,” before announcing that the NXT Title spot is taken.

Before Cruz and Tony could throw hands, Grayson Waller jumped in the ring and shoved Montana into D’Angelo. Then Waller left the ring as he continued to stir the pot. This situation is getting interesting for the NXT Title, but the past may dictate the future in NXT.

What’s your take on Cruz Montana’s time in NXT so far? Do you think he is destined to be a big star? Let us know what you think in the comments section!
