Paul Heyman and Vince McMahon have been through plenty together over the years, but anyone expecting the two to reunite anytime soon probably shouldn’t get their hopes up. Heyman says they’re currently living very different lives, and getting back in touch with his former boss isn’t something that’s even on his mind.
While speaking with Graham Bensinger, Heyman reflected on his complicated relationship with McMahon, including the heated arguments they had during their years working together in WWE. Heyman explained that McMahon actually enjoyed confrontation. Their disagreements could become personal, but McMahon wasn’t necessarily offended when someone challenged him directly.
“It’s a lot of It’s a lot of yous, yous. And he liked confrontation. So, if I said, you know, hey, you on this, and he he he he wouldn’t he wouldn’t go, ‘Oh, how can you talk to me that way? I’m the chairman of the board. I’m going to fire you.’ Oh, really? ME? YOU. YOU KNOW, it’s like, ‘Okay, here we go.’ I mean, it it was just it was these childish battles.”
Heyman identified the 2006 ECW revival as their worst dispute, claiming McMahon promised him control of the brand before quickly taking away his authority. The experience left Heyman deeply frustrated, and he described those six months as the most miserable period of their working relationship.
Despite everything that happened, the two eventually found their way back to each other professionally. When Bensinger initially asked whether they would ever reconnect, Heyman pointed out that they had already done exactly that years after their ECW falling-out.
“Oh, of course we did. 5 and 1/2 years later.”
However, Bensinger clarified that he wasn’t asking about their previous reunion. He wanted to know whether Heyman could see himself reconnecting with McMahon now, following McMahon’s departure from WWE and the changes that have taken place within the company. This time, Heyman wasn’t nearly as certain.
“Well, I don’t know. I mean, it it it’s it’s You know, it Our business is very, very funny. So, I Right now, we’re on different paths in life. So, do I think we reconnect? I don’t know.”
Heyman then made it clear that a potential reunion isn’t something he spends any time considering. He also believes McMahon isn’t thinking about reconnecting with him either.
“I don’t I don’t think about it and I can very much guarantee you neither does he.”
Heyman’s relationship with McMahon has included major creative disagreements, a lengthy separation, and an eventual return to WWE in 2012. That history makes his latest comments especially interesting, considering how often the two have found themselves working together despite their differences.
For now, Heyman remains part of WWE under the creative leadership of Paul Levesque, while McMahon is no longer running the company. Heyman didn’t suggest that there’s any new personal conflict keeping them apart, but he also gave no indication that either man is looking to reopen that chapter.
Things have certainly changed since Heyman and McMahon last worked together, and it sounds like both men are perfectly comfortable keeping their distance. Wrestling has a long history of unexpected reunions, but this doesn’t appear to be one Heyman is actively pursuing.
Do you think Paul Heyman and Vince McMahon will eventually reconnect, or has their working relationship finally come to an end? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
