The July 28 episode of NXT was supposed to be a standard show. However, Grayson Waller had other plans.
This week’s NXT opened up with Grayson Waller taking the microphone. This was a big surprise, because fans hadn’t seen him in a while.
Grayson Waller walked fans through his career so far. He also called Austin Theory 240 pounds of idiot that he carried around. Then he brought up the terrible gimmick they gave him with The New Day as he walked around for a year acting like he’s at a funeral.
He made it clear that he’s not going to sit at catering and cash a check. He’s in the best shape of his life, and he wants the NXT Championship. He said that the NXT Championship used to mean something as he named off people like Johnny Gargano, Kevin Owens, and so many more who have carried the title.
Grayson Waller made the big announcement that he’s there to take the NXT Title. He asked, “Who’s gonna stop me? Cruz Montana? I love the new name, by the way, it’s great.” Then Waller said it’s not 2005 anymore so being at the top of TNA doesn’t mean anything.
He called out Tony D’Angelo. Grayson said that he’s gonna send Tony home to that “ugly newborn baby of yours.” Someone from production told Waller to wrap it up, and then Grayson told Shawn Michaels to send out “one of his guys.”
This segment felt real, and it was very unexpected. Grayson Waller continued to say that the NXT male roster is soft and complacent. He also said that the women in NXT are running laps around them, but 90% of the men think they should get called up tomorrow, but all the best wrestlers in NXT are women.
Grayson Waller brought up the indie talent that NXT has, but if you put a microphone in their hands the energy gets sucked out of the room. Fans started chanting and Waller said, “Shut up, I don’t need your support. I’m cooking right now, let me cook.” He said he is starting to remember who he is, he si the most underrated man on the roster, and then they cut off his microphone.
Then Waller took the camera and started to cut a promo directly to fans, but they cut the feed and went to a commercial. This segement was raw and a real injection of unexpected energy that nobody saw coming. Only time will tell what Grayson Waller does in NXT next, but he seems to have lost his filter.
