El Hijo del Vikingo’s road back to the ring is becoming much clearer—and unfortunately, it’s going to be a long one.

Just over a week after the AAA star underwent successful knee surgery, a new report has revealed how long WWE and AAA fans could be waiting to see him wrestle again. While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said the current expectation is that Vikingo will be out of action for around nine months as he recovers from surgery to repair a torn ACL.

“Out nine months. That’s what it looks like after the surgery. That’s the word I’m told.”

If that timeline holds, it would sideline one of AAA’s biggest stars well into 2027. The update comes after Vikingo shared encouraging news from his hospital bed following the procedure, telling fans the surgery had gone well while thanking his wife, Diana Jauregui (Aleidis), for standing by his side throughout the ordeal.

“Nothing will be the same again, but everything can be better than it ever was. HDLV family everything was a success thanks to God. Thank you my beautiful doll @aleidis_oficial.”

Just one day before the operation, Vikingo posted photos showing himself wearing a brace on his left leg and using a crutch as he prepared for surgery. The injury had already forced WWE to change plans on NXT.

Vikingo was originally scheduled to defend the AAA Latin American Championship against E.K. Prosper on the June 30 episode, but the match was scrapped after the injury. WWE instead aired a backstage attack angle with Keanu Carver, followed by Robert Stone calling for medical assistance as Vikingo was shown with a badly swollen knee while awaiting MRI results.

While a nine-month recovery is never the news fans want to hear, the positive takeaway is that the surgery was successful and Vikingo has remained upbeat throughout the process. Now the focus shifts from getting through the operation to the much longer challenge of making it back inside the ring.
