Drew McIntyre is finally done filming The Last Druid—and the confirmation didn’t come from WWE or even McIntyre himself. Instead, Russell Crowe broke the news.

Taking to Instagram on August 5, the Oscar-winning actor revealed that production on the film has officially wrapped after months of filming in Spain, sharing a gym photo with McIntyre as the two squeezed in one final workout together before calling it a wrap.

“In the gym with Drew McIntyre. Good lad. Salt of the earth. Just finishing up the shoot on The Last Druid. We have been shooting in Spain since May. It has been two years now since playing Hermann Goering in Nuremberg. The long sweaty days in the beautiful Spanish sunshine have definitely been a great motivator. As I always say, it’s one layer of tissue paper at a time. Consistency is your friend.”

It’s a meaningful update for wrestling fans because The Last Druid has been the reason McIntyre disappeared from WWE television in the first place. Every time speculation picked up about a possible return, the answer was the same—he was still in Spain filming alongside Crowe.

Just a day before Crowe’s post, McIntyre gave fans a behind-the-scenes look of the production himself, posting a gym photo with the Hollywood star and captioning it, “Gladiator x Warrior,” a nod to Crowe’s iconic role as Maximus and McIntyre’s “Scottish Warrior” persona.

Before that, McIntyre briefly returned home, sparking immediate rumors that he was finally heading back to WWE. Those rumors didn’t last long. His representatives quickly clarified that he was only home for a short break before returning to Spain to finish the movie. Now, that chapter is over.

Crowe’s post confirms The Last Druid is officially in the books, meaning the project that has kept McIntyre away from WWE for months is no longer standing in his way. WWE still hasn’t revealed when the former World Champion will make his return, but with filming complete, fans can finally start wondering when—not if—the Scottish Warrior walks back through that curtain.
