According to Anderson, The Young Bucks’ current AEW contracts are set to expire next year. He added that he stays in constant contact with the brothers, making it clear this isn’t a situation he’s watching from afar.
“The Young Bucks’ contract is done next year. I talk to them every single day.”
Even with those conversations, Anderson admitted he has no idea how much longer the Jacksons actually want to keep wrestling, saying, “You know what? How much longer will the Bucks go, dude? I don’t know.”
He believes that’s something fans don’t always appreciate until it’s too late. In Anderson’s eyes, this generation of wrestlers won’t be around forever, and people may not realize what they had until they’re gone.
“And these are real things that people might not, you know, when they’re… when these guys are done and they’re done, you’re going to go, ‘Oh, hold on a second.'”
The comments come about a month after Dave Meltzer led to retirement speculation by saying he’d heard discussion that the Bucks’ current AEW deals could be their last. Meltzer later clarified that he wasn’t reporting Matt or Nick had recently told him they planned to retire, explaining that he was referring to Matt Jackson’s past public comments about eventually stepping away and the fact that both brothers are financially secure.
Contract talks are one thing, but deciding when to walk away is something completely different. Right now, it sounds like even people closest to The Young Bucks don’t know how this story ends—and that’s what makes the next year so interesting.
