Following news that Paramount reached a settlement with California and other states challenging its planned acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, Khan addressed the latest development during a Twitter stream on September 23.
Khan reminded fans that he hasn’t exactly been quiet about where he stands on the merger. In fact, he said he’s been talking about it for months because he believes combining Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery will ultimately make AEW a stronger company.
“I’ve made it no secret dozens and dozens of times I’ve gone on the record and said I look forward to a time when, hopefully, it will be Paramount and Warner Bros. together. I think it will make AEW stronger, I’ve said it time and again, and I believe we are very close to that time. Speaking of Warner Brothers, they’re here tonight for Wednesday Night Dynamite.”
Khan also pointed to Paramount CEO David Ellison as one of the biggest reasons for his optimism. Having worked with Ellison through the NFL, Khan described him as someone who genuinely enjoys professional wrestling and sports, while praising his track record in both television and film.
“What a fantastic announcement for AEW and our fans to have the leadership of the great David Ellison coming in. I’ve said it time and time again. This is somebody who loves professional wrestling, and loves sports. It’s somebody who I’ve worked with in the National Football League, whether it’s NFL Films or now CBS and the great partnership with the NFL. This is a great TV producer, a great film producer, and somebody who I think is gonna be a great leader for Warner Bros. just like he is now for Paramount.”
Khan wrapped things up by making it clear he sees this as much bigger than just another corporate headline. As far as he’s concerned, the media landscape is changing in a way that could directly benefit AEW, and he thinks fans have every reason to be excited about what’s coming next.
“I’m excited about what is happening in the world of media, and you should be too if you’re an AEW fan because, ladies and gentlemen, this is a great time for us.”
The merger still has a few hurdles to clear before it’s officially complete, but Khan’s comments make it pretty obvious how he’s viewing the latest development. He believes the deal is getting closer, and if it crosses the finish line, he expects AEW to be one of the biggest beneficiaries.
