Willow Nightingale may be dealing with an injury, but AEW apparently isn’t planning on making her disappear while she heals. Her appearance on Dynamite this week was part of the plan all along.
According to Fightful Select, Willow is currently recovering from her hand injury but is expected to remain on AEW television throughout the process. The decision to keep her involved was reportedly made when the injury first happened.
“Willow was on this week’s Dynamite and is expected to remain on TV while her hand injury heals. She’d been planned to stay on TV from the time it was hurt.”
That helps explain why Willow was still part of the September 9 Dynamite despite not getting physical. Thekla was in the ring going after new AEW Women’s World Champion Mercedes Moné when she turned her attention to Willow.
Thekla called Nightingale the worst AEW Women’s World Champion of all time, which was enough to bring Willow straight out. She wanted no part of actually dealing with her. She slipped out of the ring as Willow entered, eventually joining Skye Blue and Julia Hart on the entrance ramp.
Willow is coming off a rough few weeks after losing the AEW Women’s World Championship to Moné at All In. She came close to retaining at Wembley Stadium, but Moné eventually trapped her in the Statement Maker and kept the hold locked in until Willow passed out.
Losing the championship and hurting her hand could have easily taken Willow off television for a while. Instead, AEW is keeping her in the middle of the women’s division while she heals, and Thekla has already given her a reason to stick around.
