AEW may not have officially debuted The New Day yet, but the company is already figuring out exactly what comes next.

With Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods widely expected to land in AEW following their WWE exits, the conversation backstage has apparently moved beyond if they’re coming. According to a new report, it’s now about how they’re going to be used once they finally arrive.

Speaking during a Self Made session, Self Made Pro revealed that there have been plenty of creative pitches for incoming teams. But when The New Day’s name came up, he made it clear the former WWE stars are already part of those discussions.

“I do know that there have been a lot of pitches for the incoming teams and how to implement them.”

He then revealed that AEW isn’t waiting until Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods officially walk through the door before making plans.

“What I know for a fact is that The New Day, in particular, are not only expected to come to AEW, but there have already been creative discussions as to what to do with them once they get to AEW. That’s something I can tell you for certain.”

That lines up with the growing talk surrounding the duo ever since they left WWE. We had previously reported that Kingston and Woods didn’t leave because their contracts expired. Instead, the pair reportedly turned down TKO’s proposed contract restructuring and were granted their releases. Since then, there has been plenty of talk about AEW being their expected landing spot, with backstage excitement reportedly building around dream matches like The Young Bucks vs. The New Day.

Swerve Strickland also recently admitted he’d love to see them join the company. Speaking to Inside the Ring, Swerve praised both men, calling Kofi one of the greatest role models in wrestling before making it clear he’d welcome them to AEW. At the same time, he stressed they had earned the right to choose whatever path they wanted after everything they’d accomplished in WWE.

Whether those creative pitches ever make it to television remains to be seen, but one thing is becoming increasingly clear: AEW isn’t sitting around waiting for The New Day to arrive before thinking about them. If this latest report is accurate, those conversations are already happening behind closed doors.
