Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods leaving WWE already led to major speculation about their next move, but now there’s clarity on why they walked away.
While early reactions focused on what’s next for Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, including speculation sparked by MJF and growing interest inside All Elite Wrestling, new details confirm the exit came down to contract talks, not creative.
According to Bryan Alvarez, the decision was made after WWE asked The New Day to restructure their deals under the TKO system, and they turned it down. That means Kingston and Woods didn’t leave because their contracts expired; they chose to walk when the new terms didn’t work for them.
“We can also confirm that in the case of New Day, it was their decision to leave based on what TKO was offering for a new deal. To be specific, New Day’s deals were not up. They were asked to restructure to TKO deals, they didn’t like the deals, so they were then granted their release.”
At the same time, there’s already movement on the other side. As reported earlier, there’s real excitement within AEW about the possibility of The New Day coming in, with people internally already thinking about how they’d fit and what they could bring to the roster.
"There is a lot of excitement in AEW circles about the potential of The New Day coming into the company, PWInsider.com can confirm."
And one idea keeps coming up — a match fans have been waiting on for years. Sources connected to AEW have pointed out that The Young Bucks and The New Day have teased a showdown multiple times across interviews and social media, but it never materialized due to company lines.
"We've heard from a number of people connected to the company who pointed out that The Young Bucks and New Day have teased the idea of wrestling each other going many years back, but now everyone may finally be able to actually deliver that bout. That doesn't mean the team is coming in, but there are some who are excited about the idea of that match finally happening."
Nothing is confirmed when it comes to AEW, but the timing lines up. Kingston and Woods are now free agents after turning down new deals, and there’s already internal interest in bringing them in. So this isn’t just a major WWE exit anymore — it’s a situation where two top names made a call on their terms, with another company already watching closely.
