John Cena isn’t putting a price tag on a wrestling comeback because no offer will get the job done. According to Cena, neither Nick Khan nor Tony Khan has deep enough pockets to drag him out of retirement.
Cena dropped the line during his Q&A at Fan Expo Canada when a fan asked how he wanted to be remembered 50 years from now. The WWE legend said he doesn’t care about controlling his legacy because his career is over—and he isn’t coming back for anybody.
“Honestly, what I’m hearing is, ‘How do you want to be remembered?’ My answer is, ‘I don’t care.’ I’m out, dog. I don’t care who’s got the pocketbook. Nick, Tony—they ain’t got the money. I’m out. I’m out.”
Cena wasn’t just throwing out names for a cheap laugh. Nick Khan runs WWE, while Tony Khan controls AEW, meaning Cena shut the door on the two biggest companies that could realistically throw serious money at him. The reason has nothing to do with the size of the check. Cena said people spent a fortune attending his farewell tour because they believed they were watching his final matches. Coming back for money or attention would make the entire retirement feel like a lie.
“A lot of you folks spent a whole lot of resources on my farewell tour. If I decide to selfishly come back for ego-driven reasons, basically that’s saying I’m lying to every one of y’all.”
Cena knows some people would gladly welcome him back, but that doesn’t erase what families sacrificed to witness the end of his career. He refuses to pull the old “just kidding” move after selling people on a real goodbye.
“You might not mind, but there were people who paid a fortune to sit at that last match. For me to be like, ‘Just kidding’—I met so many families who put so much effort into saving just to see those moments.”
Cena also made it clear that he got out with his body intact and his mind at peace. He has no interest in giving up that closure just to take another bump.
“For me, I’m out of it with my health. I feel good. I’ve got good clarity and good closure. As far as me falling down ever again, that’s out.”
Nick Khan and Tony Khan may control wrestling’s biggest checkbooks, but Cena says his word isn’t for sale. He got his ending, walked away healthy and has no plans to wreck it with one more match.
