This week on WWE SmackDown, Nick Aldis made his debut as the new General Manager for the brand. He promptly announced Kevin Owens as the latest member of the SmackDown roster, indicating that Owens had been traded from RAW in exchange for Jey Uso.

Ringside News exclusively reported that when the trade involving Jey Uso was initially discussed, the intention was for Kevin Owens to make the move to SmackDown. This part of the plan was made from the start, but who would play the General Manager was not so clear.

A long-serving member of the WWE team informed Ringside News that when Nick Aldis was brought on board, he wasn’t initially considered for an on-screen role. However, since all brands were in need of an authority figure, “someone suggested Nick Aldis, and the idea received approval from Paul Levesque.”

Ringside News was told by a tenured member of the WWE creative team that a lot of names were mentioned for the SmackDown General Manager role, but Nick Aldis “was the idea that stuck.”

Nick Aldis gave fans clues as to what kind of authority figure he will be this week on SmackDown. After he brought Kevin Owens back to the blue brand, Aldis booked a WWE Women’s Title match for next week, with Charlotte Flair versus IYO Sky. He also told The Queen that he believes she should have won the title at Fastlane.

We will keep a close eye on how WWE evolves Nick Aldis’ General Manager role from this point on. For more details and updates, stay tuned with us here at Ringside News.
