WWE was in Chicago for this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW and the company was in for a huge surprise as CM Punk was backstage for a short time before the show began. Now it appears that some in WWE believe Punk’s reason for his shocking visit was because he wanted ‘back in’ the company.

As we previously reported, CM Punk was asked to leave WWE RAW this week, but he was around for some time prior to his departure. The Second City Saint even managed to meet a few talent during his visit and also spoke with Triple H.

CM Punk and The Miz also buried the hatchet during the AEW star’s surprise appearance. Unsurprisingly, this led to a lot of discussions among fans and pro wrestlers alike who went crazy over what Punk did.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about CM Punk’s backstage visit and noted that the feeling in WWE is that Punk made the visit because he wanted ‘back in’ the company.

”The feeling in WWE was that he was there because he wanted back. Obviously there were talks of him going back, whatever it was, late last year. But he couldn’t go because he was still under contract.

And my impression is this was with Paul Levesque in charge and not Vince, and my impression was they didn’t have any interest in him at that time.”

CM Punk also received warm reception backstage during his visit. We’ll have to see when Punk will return to AEW again, but others believe the visit was merely way for him to hype up his impending AEW return.

What’s your take on CM Punk’s shocking visit? Do you think WWE wants him back? Sound off in the comments!
