Cody Rhodes made his illustrious return from injury this past Saturday at the Royal Rumble premium live event. The American Nightmare won the 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble match by last eliminating GUNTHER. Now, he’s set for argubly the biggest match of his career.

Cody Rhodes opened the January 30, 2023, edition of Monday Night RAW. The American Nightmare cut a promo during which he reiterated his desire to win the WWE Championship. Rhodes referenced John Cena as well. He said he’ll meet Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 39.

WWE confirmed the title match shortly after Cody Rhodes cut the promo. The company released the official render for the match as well. The posted features Roman Reigns with his two titles, as well as Cody Rhodes in his Homelander gear. Check out the tweet below:

As previously reported, Cody Rhodes was always the plan if Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson couldn’t make the show of shows to square off against Roman Reigns in the main event. WWE went ahead with their long-term plans of Cody Rhodes winning the 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble match.

The American Nightmare said at the Royal Rumble press conference that he had been “very careful” using Roman Reigns’ name. Reigns versus Rhodes is finally official for the biggest show of the year. It remains to be seen how WWE will build up the feud on the road to WrestleMania 39.
