Britt Baker may have something to say, but Thunder Rosa isn’t dropping everything to listen. Their rivalry may still get fans talking, but Rosa says she has another woman to worry about—and she isn’t spending her career trying to recreate their bloodiest night together.
Speaking on the Battleground Podcast, Rosa was asked about Baker’s return and the shots the interviewer said she had already taken. Rosa’s answer made it clear that she isn’t approaching this chapter with the same mindset.
“I am more mature. I am more chill. I she is not on my list of things that I have to worry about. The one that I have to worry about is Persephone.”
That puts Baker behind a champion on Rosa’s list of priorities. Rosa explained that Persephone had personally challenged her, and she believes there’s a reason the champion wants her attention.
“She’s the one who called me out. She is the champ right now. She is the one who everybody wants their her spot. But, the funny thing is like she called me out. So, she definitely she wants something with me because I represent the women’s division in AEW.”
There’s already been overlap between those rivalries. Baker’s September 9 return match saw her team with Persephone and Hikaru Shida against Rosa, Maya World and Hyan, with Baker securing the victory by making Hyan submit to Lockjaw.
Still, Rosa wasn’t about to erase Baker’s contribution just because she has other priorities. While discussing her own place in AEW’s women’s division, she included her longtime rival among the women who helped change expectations.
“I’m going to add Britt Baker on this one cuz she’s part of this this thing. It’s like we changed a lot of things in the division and this is why like a lot of the a lot of the super crazy matches that are happening were able to happen cuz we were, you know, the pioneers on this one.”
Their March 17, 2021 Lights Out match gave fans plenty of reasons to remember them together. The bloody Dynamite main event featured ladders, chairs and thumbtacks before Rosa put Baker through a table with a Fire Thunder Driver to score the pin. When the interviewer asked whether she feels pressure to recreate that match or take things even further, Rosa rejected the idea that she’s competing with her own past. She appreciates that the match still gets people talking.
“I think I’m blessed that people still talk about it and still talks very highly of this match. Because that means that we made history.”
Rosa’s focus now is finding different ways to test herself, including adapting to lucha libre in Mexico after training in American wrestling. But anyone taking that as a sign she’s done getting violent might want to reconsider.
“I’m an artist. And when you give me weapons, guess what? I’m going to use them damn weapons. I’m one of the best at doing that.”
While Rosa appears to be happy to let that Lights Out classic speak for itself, she certainly isn’t promising to leave the weapons alone.
