Carmelo Hayes is one of the mainstays on NXT 2.0. At only 27 years of age, Hayes is the reigning North American and Cruiserweight Champion of the yellow brand. He defeated Roderick Strong to unify the titles last month at NXT: New Year’s Evil.

Hayes often cites the legendary Shawn Michaels as one of the biggest influences on his wrestling career. The Heartbreak Kid, on the other hand, has put over the young wrestler on more than one occasion in the past.

Hayes recently paid tribute to one of wrestling’s all-time greats with a ‘broken heart’ gear during his first title defense against Cameron Grimes on NXT 2.0: Vengeance Day.

Hayes retained his title after a hard-fought contest against Grimes. He took to Twitter Thursday to show off his Shawn Michaels’ inspired kneepad. The photo also contained a great caption.
