Roman Reigns walked into enemy territory and still left with his championship. During the WWE RAW episode for September 14, 2026, Reigns defeated Penta in the main event to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship after getting booed out of the building by a Mexico City crowd that desperately wanted to see him lose.
Penta had the building behind him from the second he walked out, and Roman knew it. Reigns tried telling the crowd to quiet down before the match, which only made them louder, and that hostile energy followed him once the bell rang.
Penta came out swinging, chopping Roman down, blasting him with a headstand dropkick and later wiping him out with a flip dive to the floor. Roman eventually slowed things down with some ugly offense around ringside, including sending Penta into the ring post and powerbombing him onto the announce table.
Things got even more interesting when Roman started favoring his right arm. He went for the Superman Punch and couldn’t immediately fire it off because of the pain, giving Penta an opening to keep attacking. Penta came dangerously close to pulling off the upset several times. He hit the Penta Driver for a near fall and later caught Roman with a Destroyer, but Reigns somehow kept surviving.
Then Roman decided to make the entire building even angrier. Reigns grabbed a microphone during the match and told Mexico City to acknowledge him before setting up another spear. Penta answered by drilling him with a superkick and then a springboard Destroyer for another near fall, sending the crowd into a frenzy.
Penta unloaded with even more superkicks down the stretch and had Roman rocked, but one final springboard attempt ended badly. Reigns caught him with a Superman Punch, followed immediately with a spear and finally got the three-count.
Roman Reigns retained the World Heavyweight Championship, but Mexico City made him earn every second of it. Penta walked into the main event as the crowd’s hero, pushed Roman to the edge and came within inches of pulling off a massive title change before the champion shut the door. Roman may have survived Mexico City with the belt, but he sure didn’t leave with the crowd’s love.
