Roderick Strong and Carmelo Hayes tore the house down in the opening match of New Year’s Evil. The NXT Cruiserweight and North American Title were set to merge into the NXT North American Cruiserweight Championship. Each man wanted to call that title his own.

They battled until the crowd was chanting “holy sh*t,” and both of them pulled out all the stops. They did go to commercial break about 10 minutes into the match, but they kept it on the screen with a picture in picture. NXT New Year’s Evil was presented with limited commercial interruptions.
