Mustafa Ali requested his WWE release, but the company is not giving it to him. It is unclear what Vince McMahon’s motivation is for keeping Ali around, but the former Retribution leader is still stuck in a contract he can’t get out of.
The Royal Rumble is today, but Mustafa Ali has not announced his participation. He made it very clear today that fans shouldn’t hold their breath about his appearance. It’s not likely, but you also never know what can happen when contracts are involved.

We’ll have to see what’s next for Mustafa Ali. His situation has been likened to Brodie Lee’s ordeal, because WWE kept Lee’s release request on hold for around 10 months before finally letting him go.
2022 very well could be Mustafa Ali’s year, but it won’t happen in WWE. It also won’t happen if WWE never grants his release request. There is reason why #FreeAli is trending.
