WWE apparently had much bigger plans for Lil Yachty at Sunday Night’s Main Event. A legitimate concert was reportedly supposed to be one of the show’s major attractions—until WWE changed its mind.

According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, one of the original ideas for the special was to heavily promote an actual Lil Yachty concert as one of the main reasons to tune in.

That idea didn’t survive. WWE pulled the concert following feedback to the entertainment-heavy segments featured during the previous Saturday Night’s Main Event. This time around, the company apparently wants considerably more of the focus sitting on the actual wrestling.

That doesn’t mean Lil Yachty is disappearing from the show altogether. He and Trick Williams are still expected to have prominent roles at Sunday Night’s Main Event, something WWE has already been pushing through its promotional material.

The timing certainly makes sense after what happened on the August 14 episode of SmackDown. Baron Corbin had just beaten Carmelo Hayes with End of Days to retain the United States Championship when Trick Williams showed up. Then Lil Yachty decided watching wasn’t enough.

He grabbed a kendo stick and cracked Corbin with it. Corbin blocked a second swing, but that only opened him up for Trick to jump into the attack and drill him with a jumping knee. One title defense later, Corbin suddenly had Trick and Lil Yachty standing across from him.

So WWE clearly isn’t backing away from Yachty’s involvement. They’re just apparently backing away from turning part of the show into his concert.

The original plan had Lil Yachty’s performance positioned as a major attraction. After the reaction to the last SNME’s entertainment-focused material, WWE reportedly changed course and decided the wrestling needed more of the spotlight. Yachty and Trick are still coming but the concert isn’t.
