Stephanie Vaquer has finally explained what happened after she was seen struggling to walk following WWE Money in the Bank, and the situation sounds much better than it looked.
Speaking to TJ Sports: Lucha Wrestling, Vaquer confirmed that she twisted her ankle during the show. Despite how rough she looked while making her way backstage, she made it clear that she is not expecting to miss much time.
“I twisted my ankle. It’s not a big deal — just a couple of days of rest.”
Vaquer’s ankle was not the only thing bothering her after Money in the Bank. She also lost the Women’s World Championship to Liv Morgan, and that defeat appears to be weighing on her much more than the injury.
“But more than anything, I’m very disappointed about that match. I would have loved to be able to do this interview with you with the championship here on my shoulder, but I wasn’t able to retain it.”
There was immediate concern about Vaquer after the show because she was visibly limping and needed referee Jessika Carr to help her. At one point, Vaquer sat down on the steel steps before eventually making her way backstage.
The injury was later confirmed as legitimate and not part of a WWE storyline. Even then, the belief was that Vaquer would not be out for long, and her latest comments make that even clearer. Vaquer is also not dwelling on the loss. She said setbacks only give her more motivation to return stronger.
“Like I said, every time I lose, I come back stronger, and that’s my goal. You can’t beat someone who never gives up.”
Money in the Bank clearly did not go according to plan for Vaquer. She walked into the show as Women’s World Champion and left without the title while also dealing with an injured ankle. Still, Vaquer made it clear that she plans to recover and get right back to work.
“So that’s the optimism I have right now, but yes, I’m disappointed. No, I didn’t expect something like that to happen at Money in the Bank, but we’re going to recover, like always.”
Considering how bad Vaquer looked while leaving the ring, hearing that she only expects to need a few days of rest is a huge relief. Losing the Women’s World Championship was a major setback, but the ankle injury does not appear likely to keep her away from WWE for long.
