Turns out fans weren’t the only ones who hated last week’s Raw. After the July 27 show got absolutely ripped apart online, the fallout has followed WWE behind the curtain too.
WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select reports that several people on the creative team are now feeling the pressure after what was supposed to be a huge night for the company. And here’s the part that makes the whole thing worse. Netflix executives were sitting in the building.
Instead of showing off one of WWE’s biggest weekly shows, the night turned into one headache after another. The opening segment got off to a rough start with microphone issues and the Fall From Grace spot not going as planned. Then came the Joe Hendry and Danhausen concert, which became another backstage talking point for all the wrong reasons. Ryan Garcia apparently didn’t help either.
According to the report, his cameo landed with a thud backstage, with some questioning what he actually brought to the segment and others wondering why WWE wanted him involved at all considering the baggage surrounding him over the past few months.
That’s almost exactly what fans were saying. Garcia became the face of the backlash within minutes of the show ending. The YouTube clip got hammered, social media piled on, Cagematch buried the episode, and now the criticism has made its way inside WWE as well.
A bad Raw is one thing. A bad Raw with Netflix watching from ringside? That’s the kind of night people remember.
Do you think WWE completely missed the mark with the July 27 episode of Raw, or has the backlash gotten out of control? Sound off in the comments below.
