Vince Russo has already explained why he walked away from JCW, and now it’s Violent J’s turn. After Russo spent the last day talking about creative differences and why it was time to move on, the JCW boss has finally addressed the split—and his message couldn’t have been more different from the drama some fans expected.
Russo revealed he had been unhappy for months before ultimately deciding to leave JCW, although he repeatedly stressed there was no personal falling out with Violent J. Now, while speaking to Undisputed, Violent J has shared his own thoughts on Russo’s exit.
Far from taking a shot at his former creative partner, Violent J called Russo one of the biggest positives JCW has ever had and admitted the partnership lasted much longer than either of them originally expected.
“Vince Russo has been nothing short of a massive blessing for JCW and for me in my personal life,” said Violent J. “Originally, we planned a two-or-three-month run together and we ended up going an entire year. Every single time I saw his face on Lunacy, it gave me chills. I feel forever indebted to the man and I’ll always love him and miss having his legendary presence on the show.”
Violent J also pushed back on any idea that Russo’s time in JCW didn’t leave a lasting impact. Even after more than two decades of writing wrestling storylines himself, he said working alongside Russo completely changed the way he looks at the business.
“I have been writing wrestling storylines since I was backyard wrestling at 14 years old, and I’ve been writing storylines throughout the first 26 years of JCW. Yet I’ve learned more over this past year working with Vince Russo than I’d ever known.”
That doesn’t mean JCW is slowing down now that Russo is gone. Violent J said he’s excited to take everything he learned over the past year and use it to kick off the promotion’s next chapter.
“I’m extremely excited to get back behind the wheel and deliver a brand-new era of JCW fans will never forget and will make Vince Russo extremely proud. Nothing to it but to do it, so let’s rock.”
Russo made it clear why he felt the partnership had run its course. Violent J’s comments make it just as clear there isn’t any bitterness on his side. The working relationship may be over, but it sounds like the respect between the two is still very much intact—and now both men get the chance to see what they can do in the next chapter of their careers.
