Mercedes Moné has opened up about a heartbreaking loss in her family, revealing that her younger sister, Alexis Varnado, passed away earlier this year. Moné shared the deeply personal news in her Moné Mag newsletter while reflecting on just how difficult the past few months have been.

Moné revealed that Alexis passed away in September and admitted she is still struggling to talk about what happened. What makes the loss even harder for her is knowing that her sister left behind two young children.

“September was an incredibly hard month for me because I lost my younger sister, Alexis. It’s still difficult to talk about. She was so young, and knowing she left behind two young children makes my heart hurt even more.”

Moné also looked back on one memory that has stuck with her — attending WrestleMania in Atlanta with Alexis when they were younger. Considering everything wrestling would eventually become in Moné’s own life, having that memory with her sister from before her career took off means even more now.

“One memory I keep thinking about is when we went to WrestleMania together in Atlanta when we were younger. Wrestling has been such a huge part of my life, and I love that I have that memory with my sister from before so many of my own dreams came true.”

Another memory Moné holds close comes from 2020, when Alexis helped her take care of their mother. Moné said she will always be grateful to her sister for being there during that period.

“I also think about 2020, when she helped me with my mom. I will always be grateful for that.”

Moné ended her tribute by admitting she is still trying to process how someone so young could be gone. More than anything, she wishes Alexis and her children could have been given more time together.

“I wish Alexis had more time. I wish her children had more time with their mom. I’m still trying to understand how somebody so young can be gone. I love you, Alexis.”

It’s an incredibly personal loss for Moné, and her tribute makes it clear that the memories she shared with Alexis — from their childhood WrestleMania trip to the time they spent helping their mother — are ones she’ll continue carrying with her.

We send our condolences to Mercedes Moné, Alexis Varnado’s children and everyone affected by her passing.
