WWE is still catching heat for airing Worlds Collide opposite AEW’s PAC tribute episode of Dynamite, but Vince Russo thinks the criticism is way overblown. As far as he’s concerned, WWE already paid its respects, and everything else is just fans picking sides.
While speaking on The Coach and Bro Show, Vince Russo was asked what he thought about people calling WWE disrespectful for sticking with the original Worlds Collide schedule.
“This is just the tribalism. This is just the AEW tribe wanting to have something to say about the WWE.”
The former WWE writer said WWE already did what it should have done after PAC’s passing, pointing to the public tributes from Triple H and The Rock.
“Listen, man, the WWE did their due diligence. In the honor and memory of PAC, they recognized it. Triple H and The Rock said something about it.”
He doesn’t believe running Worlds Collide changes any of that. To Russo, WWE honored PAC, and now it’s simply carrying on with business. Russo said the reaction has more to do with fan rivalry than WWE’s actual decision.
“Bro, at the end of the day, business is business. Nobody’s disrespecting anybody. They got a business strategy, they acknowledged the death and paid their respects, but now it’s business. Again, bro, this is just the tribal situation we are in. If I’m an AEW mark and if I can say something about WWE, this is just something I can say about it.”
His comments come after Bryan Alvarez reported that many people inside WWE weren’t happy about Worlds Collide going head-to-head with AEW’s tribute show. Even so, WWE hasn’t changed its plans, and Worlds Collide is still set to premiere on YouTube at 7 p.m. ET on September 30, opposite the first hour of AEW’s tribute to PAC.
Whether people agree with Russo or not, the debate clearly isn’t going away anytime soon. WWE has stuck with its original schedule, AEW is moving ahead with its tribute to PAC, and fans remain split over whether the timing is just business or something that should’ve been handled differently.
