WWE still has no plans to move the premiere of Worlds Collide despite AEW dedicating this Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite to PAC. While the scheduling decision has already led to plenty of discussion, it now sounds like not everyone inside WWE is on board with it either.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez said he’s heard from people within WWE who believe running Worlds Collide opposite AEW’s tribute show is the wrong move. He even pointed to one source who normally has no problem defending WWE but couldn’t get behind this decision.
“I have a friend there, and this person is as pro-WWE as they come. They take glee when WWE does something to mess with Tony. They defend anything, but they are not defending this one.”
Alvarez said the issue, at least from what he’s been told, isn’t with the people who ultimately made the decision. Instead, he claimed almost everyone below that level feels the same way about the head-to-head scheduling.
“If you think virtually anybody that works for WWE and TKO thinks it’s a good idea to air this head-to-head with the PAC tribute show, think again.
It’s like a person or two or three people coming together to make this decision. I don’t know who those people are. I don’t know if it’s Nick Khan or whoever.
But the fact is, below the people or even the person who made this call, nobody there is in agreement with this idea of airing Worlds Collide head-to-head against the PAC tribute show.”
The controversy stems from Tony Khan’s announcement that this Wednesday’s Dynamite will be dedicated to PAC following his passing at the age of 40. During the September 28 ROH tapings in Jacksonville, Khan told the crowd the Pittsburgh edition of Dynamite would serve as a tribute to one of AEW’s original stars and include a ten-bell salute honoring Benjamin Satterley.
Even with that announcement, WWE hasn’t changed course. Worlds Collide, which was taped ahead of time, is still scheduled to premiere exclusively on YouTube at 7 p.m. ET on September 30, putting it directly against the first hour of AEW’s tribute broadcast.
Whether WWE reconsiders at the last minute remains to be seen, but according to this report, the people actually working inside the company aren’t really happy with the decision to go head-to-head with a show honoring PAC.
