Seth Rollins disappeared after SummerSlam and stayed gone considerably longer than WWE originally planned. More than five weeks later, he finally showed up again, not on RAW, but thousands of miles away in Ecuador with his boots on and ready to wrestle.
Rollins made his in-ring return on September 9 during WWE’s South America Live Tour opener in Quito. It was his first match since losing to Roman Reigns at SummerSlam on August 2, immediately ending any questions about whether he was ready to get physical again.
WWE didn’t exactly ease him back into things either. Rollins teamed with LA Knight and Solo Sikoa in six-man tag team action against The Bloodline. Rollins ended up finishing the job himself. He connected with a Pedigree and followed it with the Stomp to pick up the win for his team in his first match back.
The timing is especially interesting because only two days earlier, WrestleVotes admitted Rollins had already been missing longer than originally expected. His post-SummerSlam break was never supposed to stretch into a prolonged absence.
“The thing that I heard about Seth Rollins following SummerSlam is that this absence wasn’t supposed to be prolonged, but now we’re at week five. Next week will be week six. So unless something changes, I haven’t heard his name in a while. He’ll be back relatively soon.”
Apparently, “relatively soon” meant Wednesday night in Quito. Rollins had been gone since challenging Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship in the SummerSlam Night Two main event. He threw multiple Pedigrees and Stomps at Reigns before eventually eating multiple Spears and coming up short.
Rollins vanished from television immediately afterward. His absence was later described as a creative decision rather than an injury, but what was supposed to be a relatively short break kept getting longer without Rollins resurfacing.
Bottom line: five weeks of Seth Rollins disappearing ended with a Pedigree, a Stomp and a victory in Ecuador. Now that he’s officially back on the WWE loop, the next time his music hits might finally be in front of the RAW cameras.
