Santos Escobar is officially done with WWE, and he already has a new name for the next chapter of his career.
On July 24, 2026, the former Legado del Fantasma leader changed his Twitter display name to “Romeo Malverde.” His handle remains @JBEIFantasma, keeping a connection to the El Hijo del Fantasma name he used before WWE. The change came after Escobar’s 90-day non-compete period expired, making him a free agent who can now sign and wrestle wherever he wants.
Before hitting the open market, Escobar sent a message directly to Triple H and Nick Khan, telling both WWE executives to watch what he does next.
“Two days. WWE, I gave everything, and that’s what was taken. No regrets. Grateful for the people, the places and circumstances I was put in. I’ll keep growing my legend and my indentation in the industry. Watch me, Paul and Nick.”
Escobar also has a movie role lined up and is expected to return to wrestling once filming wraps. He is recovering from triceps surgery, but his in-ring comeback appears to be getting closer.
CMLL previously believed Escobar was heading back before WWE made a late offer to keep him. Now that he is free again, a return to Mexico could be back on the table. The Santos Escobar name is now in the rearview mirror. Romeo Malverde is officially here, and the former WWE star appears ready to prove the company wrong.
