Santos Escobar hasn’t wrestled since leaving WWE, but he’s already lining up his next move—and it isn’t just inside the ring.
The former WWE star, once again going by Hijo del Fantasma, has been announced for this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Along with confirming his first public appearance since his WWE release, the announcement also revealed that Escobar is currently filming a mystery feature film role that has yet to be announced.
According to the announcement from the Masked Republic and Headlocked Comic Book booth, Escobar is preparing to return to wrestling once filming wraps on what is being described as a potential breakout performance.
“As successful as he has been his future is looking even brighter as he prepares to return to the ring once he has completed filming a yet to be publicly announced feature role in what is set to be a breakout performance.”
Escobar is scheduled to appear at the booth on Friday and Saturday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., marking his first public appearance of the summer as his WWE non-compete clause continues winding down.
The timing is notable. Only recently, Escobar hinted that free agency was right around the corner, reigniting speculation about where he’ll wrestle once he’s cleared to sign elsewhere. Before re-signing with WWE last year, it was reported that CMLL had expected to bring him in before WWE made a late offer that changed his plans.
Now, with his 90-day non-compete set to expire later this month and his recovery from triceps surgery nearing its end, Escobar suddenly has more than one career on his plate. Whether his next stop ends up being CMLL, another wrestling promotion, or somewhere completely unexpected, it’s clear Hijo del Fantasma isn’t waiting around for his next chapter to begin.
