Ryan Garcia doesn’t think fans turned on him just because he showed up on the July 27 episode of WWE RAW. The boxer believes WWE gave him the wrong segment.
After his surprise appearance alongside The Judgment Day led to criticism from fans and didn’t go over well backstage, Garcia has finally addressed the reaction—and he thinks things would’ve played out very differently if WWE had used him another way. Speaking with ESNews, Garcia admitted he wasn’t happy with how he was presented during his one-off appearance.
“I wish they would have given me a better segment, because then I wouldn’t have gotten as much hate.”
Garcia added that he isn’t losing sleep over the criticism and is staying focused on his boxing career instead.
“I understand why people are trying to take me down… I let people talk… Here’s the thing, f*** what they think.”
The comments are notable given everything that followed his July 27 appearance on RAW. Rather than making a quick celebrity cameo, Garcia got physically involved in the show’s closing angle, smashing Joe Hendry with a guitar before helping Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh leave Hendry, Danhausen and the Minihausens laid out ahead of SummerSlam.
The segment immediately divided fans, and the criticism wasn’t limited to social media. Following the appearance, WrestleVotes was asked whether Garcia would be back in WWE and gave a blunt response.
“No, absolutely not. A lot of people did not like that. If something doesn’t get over with the locker room, they’re not gonna redo it.”
Garcia, however, believes the issue wasn’t him—it was the creative. Instead of getting a celebrity moment similar to the high-profile WWE appearances made by Floyd Mayweather over the years, Garcia says he was put in a segment that only fueled the backlash.
Whether WWE sees it the same way remains unknown, but if Garcia’s comments are any indication, he believes his debut would’ve been received very differently had the company taken another creative approach.
