Ryan Garcia showed up on the July 27 episode of WWE RAW, swung a guitar, stood shoulder-to-shoulder with The Judgment Day… and that might already be the end of his WWE run.
After Garcia’s surprise appearance led to heavy backlash from both fans and people inside WWE, it doesn’t sound like the company is interested in giving the controversial boxer another shot. During a WrestleVotes Q&A, the topic of Garcia’s future came up, and the response couldn’t have been much more direct.
“No, absolutely not. A lot of people did not like that. If something doesn’t get over with the locker room, they’re not gonna redo it.”
That’s a pretty dramatic turnaround considering how WWE used Garcia last week. Instead of quietly sitting ringside as a celebrity guest, Garcia was thrown right into the action on the July 27 episode of RAW. He blasted Joe Hendry with a guitar before helping Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh lay out Hendry, Danhausen and the Minihausens in an angle designed to build momentum heading into SummerSlam.
The problem? Not everyone in the company was on board. We had previously reported that several WWE wrestlers wanted nothing to do with Garcia backstage, with his appearance creating plenty of frustration behind the scenes because of his long list of public controversies.
Now, it sounds like that reaction mattered. Once something falls flat with the locker room, WWE usually doesn’t rush to run it back. If that’s the case here, Garcia’s first WWE appearance may also end up being his last. For a celebrity brought in to create hype, Garcia certainly accomplished that. Just maybe not in the way WWE was hoping.
