Chelsea Green finally reached the top at SummerSlam, and Road Dogg had one question for WWE after the win: what took so damn long?
Green captured the Interim WWE Women’s Championship in a five-woman ladder match, giving her the first world title of her WWE career. Road Dogg congratulated her after the show, but he also took a direct shot at the way certain talent can get lost when creative stays locked on the same established names.
“So congratulations, Chelsea Green. The hard part for me is, why did it take so long for others to see?”
James then blamed what he called “top guys vision” for keeping other wrestlers from getting the opportunities they deserve.
“‘Top guys vision’ leaves a lot of talent underutilized. Not a knock, just the truth.”
The message hit harder because James spent time inside WWE’s creative system. He served as a co-lead writer for SmackDown before leaving the company nearly five months ago, so he has seen firsthand how decisions are made and how some wrestlers can get stuck waiting for their shot.
Green’s WWE run has included plenty of comedy, character work and title success, but she had never reached the world championship level until SummerSlam. She finally broke through by outlasting Charlotte Flair, Jade Cargill, Lash Legend and Tiffany Stratton in a brutal ladder match.
Her rise also comes after Michael Hayes’ comments about her were featured during the first season of WWE: Unreal, adding even more fuel to the argument that Green had to fight through doubts behind the scenes before getting this opportunity.
Road Dogg made sure to congratulate Green, but he was not interested in pretending WWE got everything right along the way. His point was simple: Chelsea Green had the talent all along, and people in power took too long to recognize it.
