The Mysterio family tree just got another WWE branch. Aalyah Gutierrez, the daughter of Rey Mysterio and sister of Dominik Mysterio, is officially part of WWE’s newest Performance Center recruit class, putting her one big step closer to following the family into the ring.
WWE announced the new class on September 17, confirming that Aalyah is now training in Orlando alongside a fresh group of recruits from wrestling, sports and reality television. For Aalyah, this isn’t some random family cameo either — she’s now actually in the system.
That move has been building for a while. Ringside News previously covered how Aalyah started training at the WWE Performance Center and was added internally under the Gutierrez name, which was the clearest sign yet that this had gone from “maybe someday” to something WWE was taking seriously.
Rey has also made it clear that his daughter isn’t just dabbling. After Aalyah started training, he said she was picking things up quickly despite not growing up around the wrestling business quite as intensely as Dominik did.
“She’s doing good. She’s about a month and a weekend of training in, and she picks up very fast.”
That’s a pretty important detail, because Aalyah isn’t walking into this with the same road Dominik had. Dominik was around WWE constantly growing up, appeared in major storylines as a kid and eventually transitioned into wrestling full-time. Aalyah took a different route, finished school and only later decided to see if she wanted to jump into the family business.
Ringside News also previously covered how Rey said Aalyah had to earn this for herself, making it clear that the Mysterio name might open a door, but it wasn’t going to do the work for her.
Fans already know Aalyah’s face from WWE television. She was heavily involved in the Mysterio family storyline with Seth Rollins and Murphy in 2020, and WWE even leaned into a romance angle between Aalyah and Murphy before eventually pulling the plug. Ringside News covered how WWE dropped that storyline after months of television time.
She also showed up at WrestleMania 39, sitting ringside for Rey Mysterio vs. Dominik Mysterio. Now, instead of watching her father and brother fight from the crowd, she’s training in the same building that could eventually launch her own WWE career.
Aalyah isn’t the only interesting name in the new class. Katie Reynolds comes in with wrestling experience after previously working in TNA as referee Alice Lane, while Zoë Sager was already part of the WWE ID program and has competed for the WWE Women’s ID Championship.
Cara Brown brings an amateur wrestling background from Cumberland University, while Ana da Silva comes in with serious athletic credentials after becoming a three-time Brazilian national champion in shot put and competing at the 2016 World U20 Championships.
WWE also went shopping in Australia. Jackson Goonrey, known on the independent scene as Scott Green, joins the class after finishing runner-up on Australian Survivor: Redemption. His tag team partner Tyran Tuckey, better known as The Tuckman, is coming with him after the two built a name together as The Dropouts.
Still, Aalyah is obviously the name most fans are going to zero in on. Rey Mysterio is already a Hall of Famer, Dominik has become one of WWE’s most recognizable stars, and now Aalyah is officially trying to make sure the Mysterio family stays all over WWE for another generation.
There’s no word yet on when Aalyah could make her in-ring debut, and there’s no guarantee she’ll wrestle under the Mysterio name once WWE starts presenting her on television. What is clear is that this isn’t just a family visit anymore — Aalyah is in the building, training for the real thing.
The Mysterio name might get people to pay attention, but once that bell rings, Aalyah is going to have to prove she belongs there on her own. If she can pull that off, WWE could be looking at another full-time Mysterio before long.
